The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook predicting widespread dust haze across northern and central parts of the country, with sunny skies, cloud patches and the likelihood of isolated thunderstorms in parts of the South on Friday.
According to the agency’s Daily Weather Outlook for Friday, January 30, 2026, moderate to slight dust haze is expected over several northern states in the morning, continuing into the afternoon and evening hours.
“The remaining parts of the region (North) are expected to experience slight dust haze in the morning,” NiMet said in its forecast, adding that haze was likely to persist throughout the day.
The forecast also highlights that horizontal visibility could be reduced to between 2 and 5 kilometres in parts of Yobe, Katsina, northern Bauchi, Kano and Jigawa states, with suspended dust particles affecting visibility in some areas.
In the North Central states, slight dust haze is also expected to prevail through the day, NiMet noted.

In contrast to the dusty conditions in the northern belt, the southern region will largely experience sunny skies with a few cloud patches, NiMet said. However, it cautioned that there were slim chances of isolated thunderstorms with light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states during the afternoon or evening.
NiMet warned that dust suspended in the atmosphere could lead to reduced visibility and health concerns, especially for people with respiratory conditions, urging motorists to exercise caution while driving under hazy conditions.
The agency also encouraged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather information from NiMet to ensure effective flight planning amid the varying weather conditions.
Across the South, the generally sunny outlook with occasional cloudiness and potential afternoon showers underscores the transition toward the rainy season in parts of the region.
Residents are advised to stay updated with official daily weather advisories from NiMet as conditions evolve.
