Kwara United have dismissed claims they abandoned their former player Anthony Anioke during his injury layoff.
Chairman of the club, Kumbi Titiloye, stated that the player refused to undergo treatment from the club’s medical team.
Titiloye added that they paid Anioke’s salary for four months while he was injured.
“No player can subject the club to ridicule or cheap blackmail after refusing medical treatment from our approved medical team,” Titiloye stated to the club’s media.
“Anthony Anioke joined the club with an existing injury, and despite our readiness to manage his condition, he chose to leave.”
Kwara United reaffirmed that they will continue to operate in line with NPFL guidelines on player recruitment, welfare, and contract agreements, with a strong emphasis on player safety and professionalism.
