The National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State have been conferred with honorary doctorate degrees by Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola.
The other two MAU honorary doctorate recipients are Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State and former Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State.
The four were presented with the symbols of their recognition on Saturday during MAU’s combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies, at which a total of 7,029 regular graduands from the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions were also awarded their respective undergraduate, postgraduate and academic doctoral degrees.
The MAU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Umar, said the four honorary degree recipients were carefully selected in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that since its establishment in 1981, Modibbo Adama University has played a notable role in the intellectual and moral development of Nigerian youths, though he acknowledged that the institution faces challenges, including the lack of a complete perimeter fence to fully secure its expansive main campus.
The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, who attended the convocation in person as a guest, announced plans by his administration to construct a five-kilometre internal road network within the university.
Fintiri said the project formed part of his government’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with the Federal Government and improving infrastructure in tertiary institutions across the state.
