The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 10 suspects over their alleged involvement in the vandalism of critical national infrastructure, kidnapping, theft and other related offences across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and neighbouring states.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, ACC Afolabi Babawale, and issued to newsmen.
He said the operation was in line with the directive of the Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to intensify efforts against economic sabotage and criminal activities threatening national assets.
He explained that the arrests were carried out by the Corps’ CG’s Special Intelligence Squad in collaboration with the CG’s Crack Squad, following credible intelligence reports and renewed operational directives.
The statement revealed that items recovered from the suspects include vandalised armoured cables and dangerous weapons believed to have been used in carrying out their illicit operations.
“The suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations,” the Corps stated.
The NSCDC reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against economic sabotage, warning that individuals and groups involved in the destruction of public infrastructure would face the full weight of the law.
It further assured residents of the FCT and surrounding states of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, property and critical national assets.
