
The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has announced the deployment of over 2000 personnel across the State for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
DAILY POST reports that the personnel are to ensure adequate security before, during, and after the celebration.
A press statement by Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, Commandant of the Command, made available to newsmen, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Ogbebor Efosa, said the deployment is part of proactive measures by the Command to guarantee a peaceful and hitch-free celebration for all residents, particularly Muslim faithful observing the festive period.
Ayinla, said the personnel were drawn from various specialised units of the Corps, including the Armed Squad, Female Special Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Disaster Management Unit, and the Commandant’s Monitoring Team.
He noted that the operatives have been strategically deployed across the three senatorial districts of the state.
He said critical public locations such as markets, recreational centres, prayer grounds, highways, and other vulnerable points would be adequately secured to prevent any form of criminal activity and ensure the safety of lives and property.
Commandant Akintayo further emphasised that the Command will work in close synergy with other security agencies in the state to ensure comprehensive security coverage, rapid response to emergencies, and uninterrupted public safety throughout the festive period.
He added that all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers have been directed to intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering, and implement proactive security measures within their respective jurisdictions.
While felicitating Muslim faithful in Edo State, the Commandant congratulated them on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and urged them to celebrate peacefully, in accordance with the law.
He also used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to individuals with criminal intentions to steer clear of the state, warning that the Corps remains fully prepared to deal decisively with any threat to peace and security.
The NSCDC Edo State Command reassured the general public of its unwavering commitment to the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as the safety of all residents.
