The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has announced the sealing up of illegal minerals’ processing company in River State
Babawale Afolabi, National Public Relations Officer at the Corps, in a statement said the agency has intensified its enforcement drive against illegal purchasing, processing and dealing in minerals across the South-South Region, in line with its statutory mandate to protect critical national assets and enforce compliance with extant laws governing the mining sector.
It said the South-South Mining Marshal of the Corps, led by Deputy Superintendent of Corps, Emmanuel Abiahu, sealed the premises of Twing Supply Chain Nig. Ltd., located along Onne–Akwa Ibom Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, over alleged violations of the Nigerian Mining Act.
According to the statement, preliminary intelligence reports and investigations revealed that the company was engaged in the purchasing, processing and dealing in minerals without complete requisite licences and permits as prescribed by law, adding that regulatory lapses were also identified during the operation.
Following this, the facility was temporarily shut down to allow for comprehensive investigations, after which appropriate legal action will be taken in line with due process and applicable laws, to serve as a deterrent to others.
It said the NSCDC advised all individuals and corporate entities involved in mineral-related activities to ensure full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including the acquisition of all relevant licenses and permits, prior to commencing operations.
The Corps, under the leadership of the Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, remains committed to upholding the rule of law, safeguarding national economic interests, and ensuring that mining and mineral processing activities across Nigeria adhere to acceptable national and international best practices.
This commitment, it said, aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, just as the corps assured the public of its continued vigilance and sustained collaboration with relevant stakeholders to curb illegal activities within the mining sector, particularly across the South-South Zone
