Usman Bugaje, a former House of Representatives member from Jibia/Kaita Federal Constituency of Katsina State, on Monday insisted that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo worked day and night to get a third term.
Bugaje said some of Obasanjo’s agents threatened them and they suffered different types of harm over the third term issue.
He was reacting to Obasanjo’s claim over the weekend that if he wanted a third term as president, he would have gotten it.
Featuring on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Bugaje disclosed that there is evidence of Obasanjo sharing money to lawmakers then to facilitate his third term agenda.
Bugaje said: “I can confirm to you that Obasanjo looked for that time, he did everything that he could within his power to look for a third term but he failed to do it.
“Now, the fact that he did not make a telephone call to make a particular call to anybody is not sufficient evidence that he did not look for that time, it’s just simply the style, it’s a matter of style.
“But all of us in the National Assembly at that time knew beyond any doubt that he worked day and night and there were many of us who were threatened by his own agents and there were people who suffered different types of harm.
“I recall Senator Victor Lar, then the leader of the Northern Caucus of the House of Representatives, had to hide in a number of places before we eventually were able to hold one critical gathering that actually helped us to galvanise the country in terms of standing up to Obasanjo’s third term, so I mean…
“There are so many evidences and these people who actually distributed the money and threatened us are still alive. Those who received the money are alive. Those who refused to receive them are alive. That is sufficient evidence.”
