‘Obi’s team not helping his case’, Baba-Ahmed comments on 2027 elections

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Matters, has outlined what Peter Obi must do if he hopes to secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket in 2027.

Speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed argued that Obi’s current political tactics may not be enough in a coalition-driven primary.

“I think Peter Obi’s people and himself are not helping his case,” he said, stressing that Obi must refine his approach to compete effectively against seasoned politicians within the ADC.

While acknowledging Obi’s strong grassroots presence, Baba-Ahmed praised his visibility and outreach efforts: “I think he is the most travelled politician I’ve seen in recent times, and that’s good for him. He tries to stay in touch with the grassroots, which is good for him.”

However, he cautioned that Obi must adapt to the realities of coalition politics.

“What he needs to do now is to sit down with his people and come to terms with the fact that he’s now running against hard line politicians who also have eyes on the same thing he has his eyes on,” Baba-Ahmed warned.
