1 hour ago 1

Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has warned Nigerians about a fraudulent AI-generated video circulating online that falsely claims to offer huge financial returns through government-backed investments.

In a post on her official X account on Wednesday, she cautioned: “Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this.”

The video, which spread widely on social media, used her image to promote a supposed investment programme promising participants earnings of up to ₦2.66 million in the first week from a minimum ₦380,000 investment. It claimed the scheme was automated, risk-free, and limited to 4,000 accounts.

Okonjo-Iweala stressed that she only communicates through her verified X account, warning: “As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X. I just don’t want people to be duped.”

Authorities are investigating the source of the video to prevent further circulation, while urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and rely only on official channels for credible information.
