Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has unveiled a new security initiative called Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists, aimed at tackling rising insecurity across the state.
The governor, who launched the operation on Sunday, also approved the immediate formation of a special task force to hunt down criminal elements—particularly kidnappers and cultists—who have been terrorising communities.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor revealed that the initiative will be driven by the office of the Principal Security Officer (PSO) to the governor, working in close coordination with the Chief Security Officer (CSO) at the Government House.
Reaffirming his administration’s tough stance on insecurity, Okpebholo declared: “We will not allow criminality to dictate the future of our State. Edo State must be safe again for our children, for investors, and for those in the diaspora who want to come home and contribute.”
He added that all security agencies have now been placed on red alert and tasked with fully cooperating with the new task force.

Governor Okpebholo has also directed the PSO and CSO to ensure the full rollout and enforcement of the operation, with clear emphasis on accountability, professionalism, and community collaboration.
According to reports, the special squad will be composed of rigorously vetted individuals, including reformed cultists, local hunters, and members of community vigilante groups. These personnel will be deployed as tactical teams within each local government area, providing a swift, locally informed response to emerging threats.
The move signals the Okpebholo administration’s intent to take decisive, community-rooted action against insecurity in Edo State.
