The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Friday warned the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, not to enter the state again without a security clearance.
The governor issued the warning when he received a member of the House of Representatives, Marcus Onobun, into the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Government House in Benin City.
Okpebholo, who alleged that Obi was behind the resurgence of violence in Edo, said the former Anambra State governor’s recent visit to the state coincided with the killing of three people by suspected criminals.
He said: “That man who says he has no ‘shishi’ came and dropped N15 million. Where did he get it from? After he left, three people were killed. For this reason, Obi must not come to Edo without security clearance.
“I am sending a direct message to him. There is a new sheriff in town. He cannot come to Edo without telling me, because his security will never be guaranteed.

“Whatever happens to him when he is in Edo State, he will take it. I am serious about it.”
He warned that the state government would not tolerate violence linked to politics.
The governor also rubbished claims that the APC was planning to turn the country into a one-party state.
“We are not lobbying anyone to join the APC; they are coming because they see the results of our governance. In 2027, 2.5 million votes from Edo are guaranteed for President Bola Tinubu,” Okpebholo stated.
