Nigerian rap icon Olamide has reaffirmed his commitment to staying true to his roots, insisting he has no plans to alter his signature sound to please a Western audience.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra on Wednesday, the YBNL boss said he is proud to be an indigenous artist and content with creating music that reflects his culture and identity.

Olamide, known for blending Yoruba lyrics with street-inspired rhythms, stressed the importance of authenticity, noting that genuine artistry naturally attracts its audience.

He said, “You have to identify your audience. Once you identify your audience, the rest of the world will catch up eventually. So, I have to stay true to myself, and no matter where it is or what it is, I mean, in this world, I have to stay true to myself.

“I’m comfortable in my skin. I’m a Naija guy, a Yoruba boy. I have H-Factor and all that, and I’m proud about it. You just have to stay true to yourself.” The rapper added.

“I’m a Naija guy, a Yoruba boy… and I’m proud about it,” he said, highlighting that remaining authentic is the secret to longevity and global recognition.

Olamide added that if his music is meant to go global, it will—without him compromising his identity or style.
