The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has declared a state of emergency over worsening insecurity and political instability, calling for urgent government intervention.
Speaking through its Publicity Secretary, Yinka Oguntimehin, the OPC criticised the government’s handling of security challenges, warning that communities across the southwest and beyond are increasingly vulnerable.
“The situation has reached a breaking point. Rising violence, unchecked criminality, and political instability demand immediate action. The government must act now to protect lives and restore confidence in our security system,” Oguntimehin said.
He added that the declaration was intended to draw national attention to the crisis and press for reforms in security management, grassroots mobilisation, and stronger community protection.
The OPC insisted that failure to act decisively could worsen instability and erode public trust in governance.
