Osun community in shock as abductors demand N100m to free two residents

Fresh fears have gripped Ora-Igbomina, a border town in Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State, following the abduction of two residents and a ransom demand of N100 million by their captors.

The victims, identified as Tayese Adeyeye and Sunday Adewumi, were reportedly seized late on Sunday night when armed men stormed a private home along the Aran–Orin Road in the Papa area of the community at about 11:30 p.m.

Confirmation of the abduction came on Thursday from the Ora-Igbomina Youth Front. Speaking on behalf of the group, its leader, Comrade Omololu Abidoye, disclosed that the kidnappers had reached out to the community with a demand of N100 million in exchange for the victims’ release.

Abidoye expressed deep concern over the incident, noting that it came barely weeks after a retired Customs officer was kidnapped in the same community on December 15, 2025, a development he said was plunging residents into fear and uncertainty.

“It is becoming worrisome. These repeated attacks have thrown our community into disarray, creating chronic fear and immeasurable tension among residents,” he said.

The youth leader also faulted the Osun State Government, accusing it of failing to take firm action to curb the rising wave of kidnappings in the area.

“Today, in less than two months after the first ever community invasion and kidnapping recorded in our town, another has happened on Sunday, February 1st, 2026. Leaving two sons of the soil whisked away. Unarguably, the inability of security agencies to bring to book, the perpetrators involved in the first case has created a convenient avenue for evil doers who specialized in kidnapping-for-ransom to strike again.”

Abidoye further revealed the difficulty facing the community in meeting the ransom demand, stressing their limited means.

“The kidnappers have contacted us to demand for N100million ransom, where do we get that from?, We are farmers who love peace above all things.”

On behalf of the community, he called on the state government to urgently strengthen security around the border area, including the installation of physical barriers to control movement into Osun State through Ora.

“We demand Human and Operational Security be put in place for effective surveillance and community watch solely for territorial gatekeeping. We demand a Military checkpoint in Ora to enable a comprehensive security posture, against organized crime in volatile border area like our community.”

Residents say they now live in constant fear, urging authorities to act swiftly to prevent further attacks and secure the release of the abducted victims.
