Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi has decried the spate of violence disrupting the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Osun State, describing it as a threat to democracy and the civic rights of citizens.

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, made the remarks in a statement released in Osogbo on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Segun-Progress. His comments followed reported attacks on residents and journalists at registration centres in Ilesa and Ikirun earlier in the week.

The lawmaker condemned the alleged sponsorship of thuggery by political actors, calling the tactics “barbaric, needless, and primitive.” He warned that unless the situation is urgently addressed, it could undermine the integrity of the entire registration process.

“It is totally uncalled for. Instead of encouraging citizens to come out and register, some individuals are instigating hoodlums to unleash violence on innocent residents. Such acts must be arrested and nipped in the bud,” Fadahunsi said.

He demanded a thorough investigation into the incidents and urged stakeholders to speak out against those responsible. He also appealed to youths, particularly in Ijesaland, not to allow themselves to be manipulated as political thugs.

Fadahunsi further tasked security agencies to intensify efforts to secure registration centres and protect citizens. According to him, only decisive action against the perpetrators and their sponsors would ensure a credible CVR exercise and prevent Osun from descending into chaos.
