The Police Command in Osun, says it has arrested four suspects in connection with the attack on its officers by suspected hoodlums in Ilobu town, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Thursday in Osogbo.
Ojelabi said the command was seriously concerned about a viral video circulating on social media showing police officers being attacked by hoodlums in the community.
“The command strongly condemns the act, as it is unlawful and a direct attack on constituted authority,” he said.
He explained that the incident occurred when a team of police officers was dispatched following information that hoodlums were causing unrest over a disputed land boundary between Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities.
Ojelabi said that on arrival, the officers dispersed the hoodlums.
According to him, some youths in the Ilobu subsequently became violent and assaulted the officers while they were performing their lawful duties.
He said one of the officers was dragged to the palace of the traditional ruler in Ilobu, where he was further subjected to inhumane treatment.
Ojelabi said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, had deployed an intervention team to the area, adding that four suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.
He said more suspects had been identified and would soon be brought to justice.
The command, therefore, warned residents of Erin-Osun and Ilobu to desist from all forms of violence and attacks on security personnel.
