o fewer than 80 cows died in Chafajaule village, Ribadu District of Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, after they reportedly grazed on poisonous grasses.
Dr Bartholomew Nyalas, the Director of Veterinary Services in the state, confirmed the incident to reporters on Monday.
He suspected cyanide poisoning, stating that such incidents occur after cows graze on wild sorghum.
According to him, the wild sorghum usually comes up after the first rainfall in the area.
He stated that when the animals consume the plant in high concentrations, it can lead to their death.
“Most of the cows were destroyed on the spot of the incident in Chafajaule, Ribadu of Fufore Local Government Area as we visited the Jimeta abattoir in the same division,” he said.
