Over staffing: ASOPADEC workers won’t lose jobs – Gov Otti

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said that his administration will not sack workers of Abia State Oil Producing Areas Commission, ASOPADEC, following the discovery of over staffing in the agency by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC.

The governor rather directed the restructuring of the agency, stressing that staff discovered to be in excess could be redeployed to other government establishments, but not sacked.

Otti stated this on Sunday when he received the Federal Commissioner representing Abia State at the RMAFC, Mrs Nkechi Otti who led some officials of the Commission to hand over reports on findings after her recent familiarization visit and stakeholders engagements in Abia State.

He said, “I will also engage further with ASOPADEC to understand what their problem is. The truth is that we do not want to throw people into the job market.

“What I had instructed was some form of restructuring. If there is excess capacity, they could be sent somewhere else rather than putting them in the unemployment queue.

“The Head of Service should also be part of this meeting. It should happen as quickly as tomorrow, so that we can look at the headcount and know how to send some people to other places.”

He assured her that Abia State government would always collaborate with RMAFC.

In her speech, Mrs Oti said she was in Abia for a familiarisation visit to various government agencies and stakeholders and commended the governor for his administration’s achievements.

She listed some of her team’s findings to include issues of over staffing in ASOPADEC and need for community engagement with oil producing areas.
