Oyo fire agency recovers three bodies, rescues five as bus falls into river

No fewer than three bodies have been recovered from a river by men of the Oyo State Fire Service.

The three bodies were recovered when the bus carrying them lost control and fell into Ariyo River, along Amuloko road in Ona Ara local government area of the state.

DAILY POST gathered that five other persons were rescued alive by the agency.

The incident, according to sources, occurred Wednesday afternoon.

DAILY POST gathered that the bus conveying the victims with registration number LEW 484 XA (Osun) was loaded with eight passengers when it lost control and crashed into the river.

Chairman, Oyo State Fire Service, Hon Maroof Akinwande, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

Akinwande in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday said that the five persons rescued alive have been rushed to Ona-Ara private hospital, Jegede area for medical attention.

He also disclosed that the three bodies recovered have been handed over to a team of policemen from Ogbere Divisional headquarters led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim.

Akinwande said, “a Suzuki bus (Osun) LEW 484 XA with eight (8) passengers lost control and crashed into a river, five (5) persons rescued alive and conveyed to Ona – Ara private hospital Jegede area, while three (3) persons recovered and handed over to a team of policemen from Ogbere Divisional headquarters led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim.

“A crew of OYRTMA from Ona Ara division and Hon. Glorious Temitope, Chairman, Ona Ara Local Government were in attendance. The incident was as a result of reckless driving”.
