Oyo Govt pledges support for slain journalist’s family

Oyo State government has promised to support the family of one of a slain journalist, Mr. Ojo Peter.

DAILY POST reports that Peter was killed by yet to be identified armed robbers in Ibadan, the state capital.

It was learnt that Peter was killed on 18th August this year but the news of his death was announced three weeks after.

The state government has however promised to assist the family.

The acting governor, Mr. Bayo Lawal, made the promise when he visited the family of the deceased.

Our correspondent reports that Lawal was accompanied by Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola and Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Oyo State Council, Mr. Ademola Babalola.

Lawal expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident that claimed the publisher’s life.

The acting governor used the opportunity to call on journalists in the state to stand by the family.

Lawal said, “As a government, we know the efforts he put into his work when he was still alive and we appreciate that. That is why we have a lot of his colleagues here to condole with the family. Whatever support that can be offered would be looked into and we will get back to the family.

“I also want to challenge all journalists here today to help this family to come out of grief quickly, and the way to do that is to stand by the family.”
