The Oyo State Government has announced an early close of business across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on Tuesday to enable public servants to take part in activities marking the state’s 50th anniversary.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Adetunji Babatunde, and shared on the state government’s official X handle.

According to the statement, “all state government offices are to close by 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

“The approval was granted by the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as part of preparations for the golden jubilee celebration tagged OyoStateAt50.

“Heads of MDAs have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive, while also making adequate arrangements for skeletal services in critical areas where necessary.”

Babatunde also called for wide circulation of the directive to ensure full awareness and adherence across the state’s public service.

The early closure comes as Oyo State concludes a week-long programme of events commemorating 50 years since its creation on February 3, 1976, following its emergence from the former Western State.

Held under the theme “Consolidating the Legacy, Navigating the Present, and Reimagining the Future,” the anniversary celebrations began on January 26 with an opening ceremony at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. The event featured a public lecture delivered by Governor Makinde and the ceremonial cutting of a golden jubilee cake.

The celebrations will culminate on February 3 with a grand finale comprising a gala and awards night scheduled to take place at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
