The lawmaker representing Obingwa-West constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jr., has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He was formally received into the APC on Tuesday at Nenu, Obingwa LGA of Abia State, by former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Chris Akomas, and other party leaders.
Explaining his decision to join the APC, the former Obingwa LGA Chairman said he moved with 5,000 supporters, noting that his defection would be beneficial to his constituency and Abia State at large.
He pledged to sustain his record of effective representation and urged the people of Obingwa, Abia State, the South-East, and Nigeria to support the APC.
He also declared total support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, describing his reform policies as bold and necessary for Nigeria’s long-term growth. “The re-election of President Tinubu in 2027 is not negotiable,” he added.
The defection follows sustained overtures from key APC figures, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu.
In his remarks, former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Chris Akomas, described Erondu Jr. as a priceless political asset to Abia APC.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which previously had more members in the Abia House, now has only two lawmakers, while the APC, which had just one member, now has three lawmakers.
