A new entrant into the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Olumide Akpata, has disclosed that he and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, separately received intelligence about an alleged assassination attempt on their lives.
Akpata recounted the incident, which he said occurred in Benin, Edo State, and involved prominent figures including Obi, former John Oyegun, and other ADC chieftains.
He added that both he and Obi independently received the warning from reliable sources, prompting heightened security measures that ultimately prevented the attack.
According to him, credible sources alerted both men that the venue where they were meeting would soon come under attack by unidentified individuals.
“I was in harm’s way and there was no doubt alongside other persons in Benin. Thankfully, due to the efforts of the security personnel, what could have been a dastardly act was averted.
“Peter Obi and I received information separately from reliable sources that the venue we were at would soon come under attack by unknown persons,” he said.
