PFN president backs US-Nigeria collaboration, demands final defeat of terrorists

Bishop Wale Oke, the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has issued a powerful call to action for President Bola Tinubu, demanding a relentless and uncompromising offensive against the bandits and terrorists ravaging the nation.

Speaking to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Sunday, the cleric insisted that the government must move beyond political considerations and eliminate the “sacred cow” syndrome if it hopes to restore peace to Nigeria.

The PFN President’s remarks follow a significant escalation in counter-terrorism operations. On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed via his Truth Social platform that American forces had executed a series of lethal airstrikes against ISIS operatives in Northwest Nigeria.

In his characteristic style, Trump described the operation as a fulfillment of his promise to protect the innocent.

“Tonight (Thursday), at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries,” Trump wrote.

“I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was.”

Bishop Oke lauded the synergy between the Nigerian government and international allies, dismissing critics who suggest that such cooperation undermines national pride.

“We commend the President for moving fast and for cooperating with the United States to flush out these bandits. This is not a surrender of Nigeria’s sovereignty; it is cooperation to defeat criminals who have turned our country into a killing field. You are doing a good job,” Oke stated.

The cleric was particularly firm regarding the government’s treatment of captured or surrendering militants, rejecting the notion of “rehabilitation” for those who have committed mass atrocities.

“Don’t relent until Nigeria is fully secured. Spare no one. Allow no sacred cows. If you don’t bring insecurity down, it will bring this country down,” he warned. “There is nothing like repentant terrorists. Governance is not a church service. They are not repenting; they want to infiltrate the system to weaken it from within. If they claim repentance, that is between them and their God. The duty of government is justice and security.”

While the PFN leader acknowledged that the threat has significantly impacted Christian communities, he emphasized that the fight for security must be a blind pursuit of justice for all Nigerians, regardless of their faith.

“We should all join hands to end the killings of innocent Nigerians. Anyone who inflicts pain on any Nigerian should be made to face justice. No Nigerian should die needlessly, whether Christian or Muslim,” he added.

Bishop Oke concluded by asserting that insecurity has surpassed corruption as the greatest existential threat to the Nigerian state. He urged the Tinubu administration to maintain its current momentum, expressing hope that decisive leadership will eventually return the nation to a state of stability and peace.
