Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, who represents Kaduna North in the House of Representatives and the son of former governor Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, is being used as a political weapon against his father.

He made the accusation in response to the commission’s claim that wiretapping devices were uncovered at his father’s residence in Abuja.

In a statement he personally endorsed, the federal lawmaker criticized the agency’s conduct, accusing it of overstepping its legal authority and engaging in improper actions.

The statement, titled “The Insecurity of ICPC,” portrayed the commission’s announcement as evidence of internal irregularities.

According to Bello, the agency appears to be involved in the very misconduct it is tasked with preventing, including the alleged production of falsified documents.

He argued that such actions reflect unprofessional behavior and indicate that the commission’s integrity has been compromised for political ends.

Bello also disclosed that his legal representatives have been directed to challenge what he described as unlawful investigative steps, questionable documentation, and misleading assertions made by the ICPC.

He expressed optimism that the courts will ultimately clarify the situation and reveal the truth.

The statement read: “The ICPC’s release illustrates an attempt to manipulate public perception. It contains allegations and documentation that contradict the standards the commission is expected to uphold, including the creation of questionable records.

“This pattern of conduct reflects misuse of authority and suggests the agency has been influenced and repurposed for political objectives.

“We will resist any effort to subject us to public judgment through processes that lack credibility and fairness.”
