Plateau APC at war with North Central Forum over Mutfwang’s alleged defection moves

The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Party, APC, is at war with the North Central Forum of the party, over moves to woo the state Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, into the ruling party.

The state chapter had, in a recent stakeholders meeting held in Jos, with the National Chairman, Prof. Yitwalda Nentawe in attendance, raised a motion rejecting Mutfwang’s alleged move into the party.

But while reacting to the motion, the North Central Forum described those opposing the governor’s defection as political paperweights who could not deliver the party during the 2023 general elections.

In a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the Forum said the resolution by the Plateau chapter was born out of self-interest and insecurity, not loyalty to the APC.

Zazzaga, a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 general election, noted that it would be in the interest of the party if Mutfwang joins them.

He added that the party at the national level has been doing everything possible to convince the Plateau governor to cross over to the ruling party but regrets that a few individuals have been standing in the way of the moves.

Questioning the motives behind the rejection, Zazzaga said:

“It is not just about rejecting Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The real question is: who among these so-called stakeholders has the capacity to win elections for the party? Many of them couldn’t even deliver their polling units in 2023.”

Zazzaga emphasized that most of the signatories to the anti-Mutfwang motion lost their wards and local government areas to the PDP during the last polls but now parade themselves as kingmakers.

“They are chasing political appointments in Abuja, not the growth of the APC. The governorship running mate himself lost his ward. Only Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and our national chairman won their local governments for President Tinubu,” Zazzaga said.

The Forum insisted that Mutfwang’s entry into the APC would transform the party’s electoral strength in Plateau and across the North-Central region, describing the PDP as a drowning ship.

“We are pushing for people who can add value to the APC, not those clinging to influence without results. Governor Mutfwang has proven himself as a unifier and performer. Bringing him in is in the best interest of our party and the state,” he added.
