Plateau govt refutes report on late publication of 2024 financial statements

The Plateau State government has refuted widespread reports that it delayed the submission of the 2024 audited financial statements to the Federal Government.

A recent report released by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) has listed the state as being among the defaulting states that failed to comply with statutory deadlines for submitting their 2024 audited financial statements.

But in a statement signed on Wednesday by the state Accountant-General, Naanre Asabe Manset, the government clarified that, contrary to the FIJ reports, the state’s financial statements were submitted to the Auditor-General in May 2025.

Manset emphasized that the statements were audited and forwarded to the House of Assembly in June 2025 and were approved by the lawmakers before being published online on July 30, 2025, which was still within the nine-month legal timeline.

The AG therefore wondered how the FIJ came about the allegations that the state had defaulted in submitting the statements.

She urged the FIJ to correct the publication and remove Plateau from the list of non-compliant states, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and timely financial reporting.

She also advised the general public to access the fully audited reports at https://plateaustate.gov.ng/uploads/PLATEAU_STATE_2024_FINANCIAL_STATEMENT.pdf.
