The Plateau State advisory council on interreligious harmony has promised proactive measures to combat multidimensional conflicts threatening peaceful coexistence in the state.

The Council condemned violence attacks in Barkin-Ladi, Riyom and Bassa local governments, leading to loss of lives and properties.

They also decried blocking of highways and reprisal attacks in Barkin-Ladi.

Prof. Pandam Yaksat, co-chairman of the interfaith advisory council, expressed sadness and pain over the incidents.

“Accept our heartfelt condolences at this critical moment. Whatever happens to mankind is the will of God. Continue to exercise patience, vigilance, and remain law-abiding.”

The Emir of Wase, Mohammed Sambo II, on his part, assured that the committee is working with the Plateau government and security agencies to identify perpetrators.

“The crisis on the Plateau is multidimensional that you cannot just take one aspect and deal with it holistically. What we need to do as a committee is to be more proactive to see how we get to the root of the matter.”

On divisions between Christians and Muslims, Emir Sambo said, “I don’t believe there is a divide, but rather, people allowed themselves to be divided.

“We should highlight to our people the reasons why we shouldn’t allow certain individuals to divide us for their selfish reasons.”

Director General of Plateau Peace Building Agency, Dr Julie Sanda, said the agency is working tirelessly to sustain peace on the Plateau.
