Plateau massacre: BYM President accuses security agencies of ignoring warnings

President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, BYM, Solomon Dalyop Mwantiri, has accused security agencies in Plateau State of allegedly disregarding warnings and alerts raised by several people of impending attacks across the state, especially after the Ramadan period.

Mwantiri, who made the accusation on Monday when he visited Angwan Rukuba, a community in Jos North Local Government Area after a devastating attack on Sunday night by unknown gunmen, said the threats and warnings were open and clear.

He cited some posts on social media threatening mayhem in the state, with some specifically stating that after the Ramadan fasting, there will be more violence across the state.

He wondered why the security agencies did not take such threats seriously.

Mwantiri also lamented the fact that as a body, the BYM had alerted security operatives to the threats after getting intelligence reports that some terrorist gangs were planning to unleash violence in the state but those warnings were also treated with levity.

“Since three weeks ago, we got intel that terrorist gangs have moved into Plateau,” Mwantiri said.

“They built camps ready for attack. The foot soldiers of Bello Turji and others from Nasarawa and Southern Kaduna have moved into the state,” he stressed.

The BYM President called on the state government as well as the security hierarchy to launch an intensive investigation into the operations of security agencies in Plateau State so as to uncover what he termed as complacency within the ranks.

“We cannot continue to pretend as if everything is okay because they are not.

“I dare to say that there must be a kind of complacency within the security agencies. If not so, why won’t they act on those credible intelligence before the situation escalates?” He queried.
