
The Plateau State Police Command has announced the arrest of two high profile terrorist commanders in connection with the ambush and murder of security personnel including soldiers and vigilante officers in Garga Community of Kanam Local Government Area.
The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Ewah Bassey who made the announcement on Saturday, March 28, 2026, while parading 22 criminal suspects at the state police command headquarters in Jos, said the two terror leaders were arrested following intensive intelligence-led investigation.
On Friday, March 13, 2026, bandits operating from Madami forest stretching across Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe and Taraba States, ambushed a joint patrol team near Wanka while moving through Garga, Kyaram, and surrounding communities in Kanam LGA and opened fire on the team which was made up of soldiers and vigilante officers.
This attack led to the killing of 20 soldiers and eight vigilante members including two army captains and a colonel.
While addressing journalists at the criminal parade, CP Bassey said following the attack, the command swung into immediate action and commenced a thorough investigation which led to the arrest of the suspects in their hideouts.
“Following the devastating attack which led to the death of soldiers and vigilante officers, the command immediately swung into action and using intelligence-led investigation, two of the terrorist commanders were arrested in their hideouts,” the CP said.
“We couldn’t sleep over the incident, so we made serious investigation and they’re undergoing thorough investigation which they’re making useful information,” he added.
Apart from the terror commanders, the Police Chief also paraded other suspects involved in kidnapping, gun running, raping and cattle rustling arrested in different locations within the state.
