Detectives from the Central Police Station, Umuahia have apprehended a 54-year-man, Kalu Ugwa Ogbonnaya in connection with a cargo consignment containing arms and ammunition.
According to a statement by the Abia State Police Command on Saturday, the consignment contained twenty six live cartridge and another carton contained a pump action gun with Breech No: MY1183234..
The statement signed by DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, said the arrest was made on 17/10/2025, adding that further search of the consignment led to the recovery of one Mossberg 930 pump action with Breech No: AFO44698 and fifty rounds of live cartridges, all of which were to be received by the suspect.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the consignment was to be received from him by Agu Ugochukwu male 39 years, who has been apprehended.
”He further stated that Agu was to receive the consignment on behalf of another suspect residing in the United States.
“The suspects are currently in custody, while investigation continues at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Umuahia”, DSP Chinaka said.
The Abia State Police Command’s Spokesperson also disclosed that one Ukandu Leach who claimed to be be a member of a Vigilante group, was arrested in 23/10/2025 by its Scorpion Squad for allegedly shooting one Chukwu Emeka on his right leg in Aba.
She said that the gun shot victim was rushed to the hospital for medical attention while a locally made double barreled gun was allegedly recovered from the suspect.
