Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Joseph Kehinde and his 13-year-old son over alleged unlawful possession of a firearm along the Shagamu/Ogijo Road axis.
The suspects were apprehended on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at about 1100hrs during a stop-and-search operation carried out by operatives of the Command’s Quick Response Squad at the Lafarge area.
According to a statement issued on April 6 by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babasiyi, the teenage suspect was initially intercepted while riding in a tricycle during routine checks in the area.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge and a mask, items he could not give a clear explanation for at the time.
The police said the minor, however, claimed that the firearm belonged to his father, prompting further investigation by the operatives.
“Following the disclosure, operatives intensified efforts which led to the arrest of the father,” the statement said.
The suspects were subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, as authorities move to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the weapon.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation, noting that the Command remains firm in its stance against illegal arms possession.
“We maintain zero tolerance for unlawful possession of firearms and other criminal activities. Residents are encouraged to provide timely and credible information to support security efforts,” he said.
The police added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
