The Oyo State Police Command has said it arrested no fewer than three suspects in connection with alleged involvement in cultism.
The command also revealed that it arrested one person in connection with an attack on a commercial motorcyclist.
It noted that the suspect was arrested with the assistance of Agbekoya Vigilante personnel.
The command stated that the three suspects were arrested in Oyo, while one person was arrested in Ibadan.
The command made these disclosures in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.
The statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday in Ibadan, added that the suspects are still under interrogation and would be charged to court after interrogation.
He added that some exhibits had been recovered from the suspects.
“Acting on credible and actionable intelligence, operatives of the Atiba Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), swiftly mobilised to Bode Thomas Secondary School, Oyo, where a large number of individuals dressed in black were observed converging for a suspected secret cult meeting. On sighting the police, the group, numbering about thirty (30), fled in different directions into nearby bushes.
“In the course of the operation, the following suspects were arrested: Jelili Taiwo Kazeem, male, aged 20; Toheeb Adediran, male, aged 25; and Ayomide Taiwo, male, aged 23. Further investigation revealed that one of the suspects arrested at the scene, Toheeb Adediran, is a commercial motorcycle (okada) rider who conveyed some of the suspected cult members to the location. His motorcycle was also taken to the police station for investigative purposes.
“The suspects are currently cooperating with investigators and providing credible information that is assisting ongoing efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang. Upon the conclusion of investigations, the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.
“The Oyo State Police Command has also arrested Saheed Eegunjobi, male, aged 38, in connection with a violent attack on a commercial motorcyclist in Ibadan.
“The arrest was made possible through the collaboration and active cooperation between the command and community-based partners, particularly the Agbekoya Vigilante personnel, who promptly handed over the suspect to the patrol team attached to Idi-Aro Division. The suspect, along with one accomplice who is currently at large, had allegedly pretended to be passengers and boarded a commercial motorcycle from the Mokola area of Ibadan before attacking the rider.”
