The Edo State Police Command said it has arrested officers allegedly involved in the extortion of N300,000 from a furniture maker in the state.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Benin City.

Yamu said the arrest of the officers followed a viral video circulated on social media by an influencer, alleging the extortion of money from the furniture marker in the state.

He said the officers are attached to Oba market area command, have been identified, arrested and the money returned to the victim.

The Command’s image maker added that the officers are to face disciplinary procedures in accordance with the extant regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

He disclosed that stern administrative measures have been taken against the Oba Market Area Command to ensure professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rights of citizens in the discharge of their duties.

The Command, however, encouraged members of the public to report any unprofessional conduct by officers and men of the Command to the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) or the Complaints Response Unit (CRU) of the Command.

Yamu also assured the people of the state of the command’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in service delivery.
