
The Kano State Police Command on Thursday arrested a suspect for circulating audio and video clips capable of inciting public disorder and creating fear among residents.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the suspect was apprehended during a sting operation and is currently being interrogated.
“The Command views the inflammatory statement seriously, and the suspect will be made to face the full weight of the law at the end of investigation,” the statement said.
The police condemned the creation and dissemination of such content, warning that anyone found spreading false information will be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted.
“We will not tolerate any form of hate speech, incitement, or violence,” it added.
The statement added: “The Command is working closely with other security agencies to monitor the situation and respond promptly to any incident, and assures the public that there is no cause for alarm.”
Residents were urged to remain calm and vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the emergency numbers provided.
The police also appealed to community and religious leaders, traditional rulers, and all stakeholders to promote peace and understanding among residents.
