Police operatives in Niger have arrested 22 illegal miners in the state.
The suspects were arrested after a violent clash that broke out among them in the Wushishi Estate area of Minna.
The spokesman for the state police command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the clash on Friday.
He said, “On July 10, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., based on information received about illegal miners clashing around the M.I. Wushishi Estate area of Minna, the DPO of Maitumbi Division mobilised to the area.
“While some of the miscreants fled, about 22 persons were arrested, including some women, and they were taken to the SCID in Minna. Monitoring of the area is ongoing, with a view to arresting other fleeing members of the illegal mining group causing unrest in the area.”
