
Edo State Police Command has confirmed the attack on the State Secretariat of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, by suspected political hoodlums in the state.
DAILY POST reports that the Command confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem.
Ikoedem said the incident happened at about 2:55 pm shortly after a political gathering held at the secretariat.
According to her, “On 24 February 2026 at about 2:55 p.m., a political gathering was held at the ADC State Secretariat located on Ogbelaka Street, off Sapele Road, Benin City, to welcome new members who defected from the Labour Party.
”Shortly after the event concluded, a group of suspected hoodlums disrupted the premises and chased attendees away.
“Police patrol teams responded promptly to the distress call, upon which the suspects fled the scene.”
”Some plastic chairs and canopies were damaged during the incident. No casualties were reported. Security personnel have since been deployed to the area to maintain law and order and prevent any further disturbance”, she said.
She added that the situation was currently under control, and that further developments would be communicated as necessary.
