The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed as false a claim on social media that the country home of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba, was attacked by gunmen.
In a statement issued late on Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, clarified that the incident being circulated was in fact a foiled armed robbery.
He said the operatives responded to a distress call on September 18, in Ezimo, DIG Mba’s hometown, and successfully repelled the assailants.
“The operation, however, resulted in the death of a police officer who sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire.

“He further reiterated the command’s resolve to rid the state of violent crime.
“The command remains unwavering in its commitment to combating violent crimes in Enugu State,” the statement read.
