The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four persons allegedly involved in a visa scam amounting to N500 million.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects were taken into custody by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.

Hundeyin disclosed that the suspects, aged between 23 and 36, were initially reported to the Ago Okota Police Division before the matter was transferred to SCID for thorough investigation.

Preliminary findings, he said, revealed that the accused persons are employees of an educational consultancy firm based in the Ago Okota area of Lagos.

The suspects reportedly defrauded more than 100 victims under the pretense of securing work visas for Canada and Australia.

“Further investigations have uncovered the involvement of additional accomplices within the syndicate. Efforts are ongoing to track down these people and ensure they are brought to justice once the investigation is concluded,” Hundeyin stated.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has advised members of the public to exercise due diligence when dealing with travel or recruitment agencies, especially on matters involving visa applications.
