The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued two minors abducted in Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s Spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, said the arrest followed a report lodged on Thursday, October 23, 2025, by one Aliyu Hamisu of Tilden Fulani, who complained that his two children, 12-year-old Halima and 6-year-old Mohammed, were kidnapped by an unknown individual while waiting for their school bus along the main road in Tilden town.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang, immediately swung into action, visited the scene, and launched a criminal investigation,” Wakil said.

He explained that preliminary findings revealed an eyewitness saw a man on a tricycle pick up the children.

Shortly after, the kidnapper contacted the family, demanding ₦50 million ransom via a foreign phone number to avoid being traced.

“Following negotiations, he agreed to collect ₦1.2 million, to be delivered around Farmers Motors Junction in Bauchi,” Wakil added.

Acting on credible intelligence, detectives cordoned off the area and arrested the suspect while he was collecting the ransom. Further investigation led the team to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, where the two abducted children were safely rescued and reunited with their parents.

The suspect, identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, a relative of the victims, reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming he acted out of long-standing grievances against his uncle.

In a related development, the police said intelligence received on October 21, 2025, indicated a surge in motorcycle theft across the state.

According to Wakil, a joint operation involving the police and local security outfits was launched to curb the trend.

During one of the patrols, Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu, of the Gwallaga area, was arrested with a suspected stolen white Jincheng motorcycle valued at ₦100,000, belonging to Mahmud Aliyu of Kobi Street, Bauchi.

The suspect confessed to the crime, and an investigation is ongoing.

Similarly, on October 22, 2025, one Hafiz Yaro Ahmed of Nasarawa Jahun Street reported that his son’s black Haojue ladies’ motorcycle worth ₦250,000 was stolen where it was parked in front of a bank along Murtala Muhammad Way, Bauchi.

Detectives eventually arrested Abdulrahman Ibrahim of Gwallaga in possession of the stolen motorcycle.

He confessed to stealing it with the intention of dismantling and selling it as scrap.

Wakil added that investigation into both cases is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion.
