
Zamfara State Police Command has neutralised an improvised explosive device, IED, allegedly planted by suspected terrorists along the Danjibga–Kunchin Kalgo road in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
The operation was carried out on Thursday by a joint security team comprising operatives of the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the military EOD unit, with support from other security personnel.
In a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the explosive device was discovered and rendered safe at about 8:00 a.m. after the team applied standard render-safe procedures.
He said the pressure-plate IED was professionally neutralised, while its components were recovered and taken for forensic analysis.
The police said a thorough sweep and technical assessment of the area had been conducted and confirmed that the axis was safe for commuters and residents.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing security efforts across the state.
