The Bauchi State Police Command has rescued two children who were kidnapped in the Tilden Fulani area of Toro Local Government Area and arrested a suspect later identified as their father’s relative.

The command revealed the incident happened around noon on Thursday, October 23, 2025, when a man, Aliyu Hamisu, reported that his two children 12-year-old Halima Hamisu and 6-year-old Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu  had gone missing while waiting by the roadside for their school bus.

Investigations revealed that a man riding a tricycle (Keke Napep) had picked up the children. The kidnapper later contacted their parents, demanding N50 million as ransom. After negotiations, he agreed to collect N1.2 million instead.

According to the police, operatives set up a plan to capture the suspect at the agreed ransom collection point near Farmers Motors Junction in Bauchi. The operation led to the arrest of the suspect and the rescue of the children at Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State.

The children were found safe and have since been reunited with their parents.

The suspect, identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, was confirmed to be a relative of the children’s father. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime, saying he acted out of a long-standing dispute with the children’s father.
