The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated the importance of stop-and-search operations as a key crime-prevention strategy, following the interception of an illegally manufactured firearm during a routine patrol in the state.

In a statement posted on its official X account (@LagosPoliceNG) on Friday, the command disclosed that officers of the Anti-Crime Unit attached to the Ishashi Police Division recovered a locally fabricated, cut-to-size double-barrel gun along with two live cartridges.

The recovery, which took place at about 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, occurred during a patrol and stop-and-search exercise within the Ishashi axis.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer as part of sustained efforts to curb criminal activities and strengthen public safety across the area.

According to the police, preventive policing initiatives such as stop-and-search play a critical role in disrupting criminal plans and enhancing overall security in Lagos State.

The command assured residents that regular patrols and intelligence-driven operations would continue as part of measures to maintain law and order.

“Stop-and-search remains a proactive approach to crime prevention. On December 23, 2025, at about 10:45 p.m., operatives of the Anti-Crime Unit of Ishashi Division, led by the DPO, recovered a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel firearm with two cartridges during a patrol and stop-and-search operation within the division’s jurisdiction,” the statement said.
