The Yobe State Police Command has advised residents of the state to remain vigilant and security-conscious.

The Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, gave the advice in a statement issued on Saturday and made available to journalists.

According to the statement, intelligence reports indicate that some criminal elements may attempt to disguise themselves as petty traders and itinerant service providers moving from community to community.

“These individuals may present themselves under the pretence of selling perfumes commonly known as “Mai Tolare,” nail cutters, pushing hand trucks, or even begging while moving from ward to ward, houses, offices, markets, and other public places.

“Such activities may be used as a cover to survey environments and identify vulnerable locations”, the Command said.

It advised residents to be cautious of unfamiliar persons loitering around residential areas, places of worship, markets, public institutions, social gatherings, and other crowded places.

“Reports also suggest that some of these individuals may use tricycles as a means of transportation and often appear neat and decently dressed in order to avoid suspicion”, it added.

While urging the public not to panic, the Command encouraged citizens to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious persons, unusual movements, or activities within their neighbourhoods to the nearest police station or other security agencies.

“Community leaders, market associations, transport unions, and religious leaders are also encouraged to sensitise their members and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will assist in preventing potential security threats”, the Command advised.

The police command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged everyone to support security agencies in maintaining peace and security across the state.
