The special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session earlier scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has been postponed, the Presidency announced on Monday.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the postponement was necessary due to the timing of Buhari’s state funeral, which is also set for Tuesday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
“The special Federal Executive Council session on Tuesday in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari will no longer be held as announced earlier, given the state funeral in his hometown, Daura, on the same day,” Onanuga said.
The Presidency confirmed that a new date for the FEC session would be announced by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation after the funeral proceedings are concluded.
In addition, the Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, a national public holiday in memory of the late leader.

Onanuga also disclosed that Buhari’s body will arrive from London at noon on Tuesday and will be buried later that day in accordance with Islamic rites.
“The remains of the former Nigerian leader will arrive from London on Tuesday by noon, after which he will be committed to Mother Earth in his hometown, in accordance with Islamic rites,” he said.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari passed away on Sunday in a London clinic after a prolonged illness.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed the holding of a special FEC meeting to honour Buhari’s service to the country and declared a seven-day national mourning period, with flags ordered to fly at half-staff nationwide.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, are currently in London and are expected to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria for burial.
