The Police Service Commission (PSC) has condemned the extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi by a police officer attached to the Effurun Area Command, Delta State, on April 26, 2026.

DAILY POST recalls that the victim who was arrested and handcuffed for allegedly transporting a gun, was shot dead by a happy-trigger police officer despite his plea. The victim had promised to take the officer to the person who gave him the gun, but the officer ignored him.

Following the public outrage over the extrajudicial killing, the officer was arrested and transported to Abuja for questioning.

Reacting in a statement on Wednesday, Torty Njoku Kalu, Head, Protocol and Public Affairs for the Chairman, Police Service Commission, said the act violated Nigerian laws and international humanitarian standards, including the International Humanitarian Law; the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended); the Anti-Torture Act 2017; the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015; the Nigeria Police Act 2020; and the Nigeria Police Force Regulations 2025.

The Commission commended the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, for commencing disciplinary action against the officers involved, including their suspension and interdiction pending a thorough investigation.

The Commission extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and enjoined members of the public to remain calm as justice takes its course.
