Russian President Vladimir Putin, on Tuesday, had a phone conversation with President Masoud Pezeshkian, as both leaders continue dialogue over the developments surrounding Iran.

The interchange, the second in four days, deliberated on the situation in the Middle East amid the United States and Israel’s “armed aggression” against Iran, now in its eleventh day.

Putin reiterated his advice on de-escalating the conflict as soon as possible and resolving it via political means. Pezeshkian thanked Russia for its support for Iran, including through humanitarian aid.

Putin’s chat with his Iranian counterpart followed the call with President Donald Trump on Monday. The Kremlin said the U.S. leader telephoned Putin regarding the feud with Iran and negotiations on the Ukrainian crisis.

It was Putin and Trump’s first exchange since the end of December 2025. Both leaders agreed their communication should take place more often, according to Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov.

Ushakov said Putin informed Trump about his recent contacts with leaders of the Gulf states and Pezeshkian, and outlined ways to achieve a quick political and diplomatic settlement of the Iranian conflict.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, Trump confirmed Putin was working on making peace, saying, “Putin wants to be helpful.”

The President added that he has not made any decision on sending troops into Iran.

Putin has emerged as the unofficial mediator in the Iran war. Last week, he spoke with heads of Arab countries to discuss regional tensions after retaliatory strikes hit Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urged Russia to play a “stabilizing role” to calm the hostility between Tehran and the Gulf states. Pezeshkian apologized to nearby countries after his March 6 call with Putin, but attacks have resumed.

On Tuesday, the United States hinted at more imminent strikes. “Today will be the most intense day of strikes inside Iran. Iran stands alone, and they are badly losing,” Secretary of War Pete Hegseth declared at a briefing.

General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the U.S. Central Command has struck more than 5,000 targets, over 50 Iranian naval vessels, and several drone factories to degrade Iran’s autonomous weapons capability.
