A woman has come out to claim the baby that was found abandoned in a bush in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Recall that LIB reported yesterday that a newborn baby with the placenta still attached was recovered by residents and a man within the area decided to pay for the child's medical care after police officers who attended to the matter did not try to claim the baby. Mr Okorom Ifeanyi then cried out that after paying for the baby to be placed in an incubator, for oxygen for the child, and other medical expenses, the child was revived from the edge of death and he decided to begin the formal process of adopting the baby. However, he said authorities blocked his attempt at adopting the baby girl and told him the baby is the government's child (read here). A woman who read the initial story on LIB's online platform has now reached out claiming the child is hers. She shared a video of herself today, Feb 26, confronting the hospital in Port Harcourt where she gave birth. She claimed the hospital lied to her that her child did only for her to now see her child online.

In a long conversation with LIB, the woman, named Naomi, narrated the complications before her pregnancy that led to her changing hospitals on the day she gave birth. At the new hospital (which will not be named for now since it has not been verified that the accusations against the hospital are true), Naomi said they decided to carry out surgery, which she consented to. As an orphan without any close living family member, she said her landlady was the one with her in the hospital. After giving birth via CS, she said they took the baby away and she did not get to see the baby or find out the gender. According to her, the first scan she went for showed she was expecting a baby girl but the later scan showed a boy, so she assumed she had a son. She claims that after surgery on May 9, 2025, her landlady told her the baby did not survive. When she confronted hospital staff, they told her the baby is alive and is being given medical care. She was then given a sedative that knocked her out. When she woke hours later, she says she was told her baby had did. She asked to hold the baby and, when they brought the baby, she noticed that the baby they claim did hours earlier was still warm and the child was sweating. When she called the attention of the doctors to this, she said she was told the baby's heart was no longer beating. Naomi said she held the baby all through the night and did not open the child's clothes to check the gender because she had no reason to doubt the gender the medics told her. By morning of May 10, 2025, she said the baby was still warm and did not stiffen like a de@d baby. She was sedated again and by the time she woke up, the baby had been taken from her. She added that the hospital offered to bury the baby for her for N60,000 and she paid. Because she was heartbroken and the de@th of her child had spiked her blood pressure, she said she did not attend the funeral. She said she accepted that her baby was dead and moved on with her life, only to see the story of the abandoned baby online. She told LIB: "The hair on her head that I was looking at all night, the red patch on her face, her nose is unmistakable. I was not mistaken, that is my baby. At first I thought I was running m@d, I needed evidence." She said she reached out to all her friends who had seen the baby and they all confirmed it's the same one recovered from the bush.

She added that the blue sack the child was found in was the same blue plastic that was covering the bed she bought for the child, which the hospital asked her for to wrap the baby in. "I don't know how my baby survived, but that's my child," she insisted, crying. She asked for help to reclaim the baby she insists is hers and for the hospital to be investigated.
