Real Madrid made a light walk of Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night, sealing a 3-0 victory over the English side in their Champions League round of 16 first-leg clash.

Manchester City now face a mammoth task to keep their ambitions alive after Federico Valverde’s brilliant first-half hat-trick put the Spaniards in control of the tie.

Before this meeting at the Bernabeu, City and Real Madrid had met 15 times in the Champions League, with results split evenly between wins, losses and draws.

Pep Guardiola must now inspire one of the greatest comebacks of his reign if City are to maintain their interest in Europe’s elite competition when they meet again next week.

Bodo/Glimt failed to win any of their opening six Champions League games, but produced remarkable victories over Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan to reach this round.

In Paris, defending champions Paris Saint Germain saw off Chelsea 5-2 in a thrilling encounter, with hopes of keeping their pace in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Earlier in the day, Arsenal fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.
