Rethink Nigeria’s CPC label, terrorists after everyone – Tambuwal tells US

Former governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has urged the United States government to reconsider its decision to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).

The former Sokoto State governor made the call while speaking with journalists in Sokoto, saying Nigeria’s security problems should not be framed as a religious issue.

According to him, the violence across the country is driven by criminal elements, not faith.

“The marauders are not representing any religion; they are common criminals after every single soul that comes across them,” Tambuwal said.

He appealed to the US authorities to work with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tackle the nation’s security challenges, stressing that insecurity affects everyone regardless of politics.

Tambuwal said the issue should be treated as a national concern, not one linked to any individual, party or government.

He recalled that during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, governors and other stakeholders jointly approved funds for the purchase of Tucano fighter jets from the United States.

However, he expressed concern that the aircraft were delivered without all the agreed components.

The senator also called on former US President Donald Trump to put aside any personal differences he may have with President Tinubu and consider Nigeria’s request for international support.

“Nigeria and Nigerians are seeking help from our friends across the globe,” Tambuwal said.
